Wine of the Week: Viansa Sauvignon Blanc, Monterey County

Ahhh yes...summer is coming to a close, yet I cannot seem to give up my fetish with Sauvignon Blanc. Viansa is California's premier producer of Italian-style wines. Many of you may not be familiar with the winery as they only sell direct to consumer, so you must either visit the winery in Sonoma County, their tasting shop in downtown San Francisco, or buy direct and have the wine shipped to your home. I'll report more on a recent tasting from Viansa in a post later this week, but I could not help but mention a note about their amazing Sauvignon Blanc from Monterey County fruit.

This happens to be the 2003 vintage: crisp and herbaceous on the nose with notes of mango, peaches and apricots. A but more full-bodied than its counterparts coming from New Zealand, but nonetheless the perfect match for pastas, chicken dishes and summer salads. The perfect wine to sip while ushering out these last few weeks of Summer warmth.
